New research suggests children born in Australia to Asian mothers are three times more likely to have a nut allergy than other Australian children. And it suggests the children are also more prone to the allergy than those born in Asia who then migrated to Australia, that the Asian environment may protect against food allergy.
A study found people of Asian origin are genetically predisposed to nut allergies, which do not emerge when those people are raised in an Asian environment.
When born in a high-risk environment, like Australia, their sensitivities suddenly increase.
