Federal Government changed the dead line for refugee applications from asylum seekers now in Australia which will affect thousands of asylum seekers. Immigration Minister has set what he calls a non-negotiable cut-off date of October the 1st for asylum seekers to make protection claims or face the threat of deportation.

The refugee advocates' criticism comes as the Minister now faces new controversy on another front.

The Department of Immigration has confirmed nine people were injured when multiple shots were fired towards the Manus detention centre in Papua New Guinea in April.
