Australians Will Be Able to Save on Drug Costs With Prescriptions

The federal government is proposing new laws to lower the cost of drugs with prescriptions listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme list.


The federal government introduced legislation to reduce the cost of medicines covered by PBS's Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

PBS lists and provides drugs at government-subsidized prices.

Under that PBS lists new law, the maximum payment for drugs with a prescription would drop from $42.50 to $30.

The change will come into effect on January 1, 2023.
