Calls for a judicial shake-up after the deadly Melbourne car rampage has driven the Victorian Government to propose the establishment of a night magistrates court to hear after-hours bail applications.


Why is Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews so keen to carry out a judicial review related to bail applications? Currently in Victoria, if a magistrate's court is not in session, who has the authority to release people charged with criminal offences? And, why?
