The Special Autonomy of Aceh this year implemented its local decision to require banks to have sharia business units in order to continue operating in the province.


Conventional banks such as BRI, BNI, BCA or Bank Mandiri chose to stop their operations.  Only sharia branches still serve customers.

Why did this happen and how the impact was felt by the customer. The following is an analysis from an expert in Islamic sharia law, Dedi Sumardi who also teaches at Ar-Raniry State Islamic University, Aceh.
