Coronavirus impacts on business and residential rental markets

Tenants are facing increased uncertainty about how they will keep up with rent, while businesses have also been impacted by the economic downturn.


Shop tenants face uncertainty about how they can maintain their shops, when the economy is in the decline.
Housing tenants also face stress because they face uncertainty about employment due to total closure resulting from the coronavirus. Meanwhile the property owners also experienced pressure.

The federal government said it would create a new policy to protect the rental market from the effects of the corona virus.

Tasmania has taken steps to support the tenants by temporarily stopping eviction efforts from their rental premises.
