The Omicron variant continues to spread like wildfire across the globe. Europe remains the epicentre of the pandemic.


While the World Health Organisation says there isn’t yet sufficient information to determine if it is less or more serious than the Delta strain, early research out of the United Kingdom suggests it results in fewer serious hospitalisations.

 

 

A new study suggests the Omicron [[OM-ee-kron]] variant of COVID-19 causes fewer serious hospitalisations than other strains of the virus.

 

 

Research by London's Imperial College shows the risk of needing to stay in hospital for patients with the Omicron variant is between 40 and 45 per cent lower than for those with Delta.
