John Tasirin Ph D, an expert in environment issues and animal preservation of the Sam Ratulangi University in Manado, speaks of the tradition of eating all kinds of animals in North Sulawesi.


In traditional markets, primarily in Tomohon, they sell rat meat, cats, snakes, bats, pigs, dogs, monkeys, tarsiers, yaki (a kind of ape), and many other species to eat. Why does the tradition continue to exist? What is the adverse effect on the preservation of the animals? Should it be limited?
