A few days ago, police broke up demonstrators on their way to the Royal Offices in Bangkok to deliver letters of complaint to the King. It was another is a series of demonstrations that challenge the authority of the country’s monarchy. How has this come about?


The recent political history of Thailand is famously turbulent. The current problems show some similarities to the past but there also appear to be new dimensions. Several weeks ago Dr Muhammad Rum, a lecturer in International Relations from Gajah Mada University, explained what is at stake.
