The latest issue relates to Direction 99 -- which requires the Court of Administrative Appeals to consider a person's relationship with Australia when reviewing a visa cancellation decision.
Direction 99 was introduced last year by Immigration Minister Andew Giles, under pressure from the then Prime Minister of New Zealand, Jacinta Ardern, to stop deporting New Zealand nationals who spend most of their lives in Australia.

Earlier this week, A-A-T issued its ruling in the case of a man known as C-H-Y-C, reinstating a visa for the New Zealand man who pleaded guilty to raping his stepdaughter, citing his ties to Australia.
