Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says he is quietly confident that, when all the votes are counted, the Coalition will have the numbers in the lower house of parliament to form government.
Mr Turnbull says pre-poll, postal and absentee votes should determine the outcome for some of the 12 seats where the results are not apparent.
He says they could possibly even force a recount in others where the result appears too close to call.
