Temperatures are expected to soar across Australia this summer, but as many prepare to head to the beach, things are expected to look very different on the sand.

Authorities are set to introduce a raft of new measures in an effort to help popular swimming spots stay open and remain COVID-safe.

Some Sydney councils will be encouraging COVID-safe practices at their beaches, including Randwick Council in Sydney's east.

Scorching temperatures and record crowds are expected in coming days and authorities aren't taking any chances.

Randwick City Council will invest $1.2 million to increase COVID-safety measures.
