With many household assistants returning home for Eid, how do families in Indonesia view the role of household assistants?


It is quite common in Indonesia to have a helper at home to do house chores.

The domestic helper, known as ART or asisten rumah tangga (household assistant) covers tasks such as cleaning, cooking and feeding the house pets.

Approaching the Eid holiday, the helpers would usually return to their hometowns. This is that time of the year that many Indonesian families find difficult to cope with.
