Driven by a lifelong desire to help others, Dinar Tyas is now a team leader supervising social workers who support people affected by family and domestic violence in Melbourne.

In this SBS Indonesian podcast, Dinar reflects on her journey from Indonesia to building a career as a social worker in Australia. She shares insights from more than 15 years working in the sector, including the realities of family violence, the challenges faced by migrant communities, the importance of understanding trauma, and why family violence is not limited to any particular culture, religion or social group.

Dinar also explains how family violence is often linked to power imbalances and gender roles, who can be affected as victims or perpetrators within a family setting, and how supporting victim-survivors has shaped her own views on healthy relationships, independence, and self-worth.
