Some of Australia's best-known charities have accused the federal government of launching a direct attack on democracy by restricting those receiving foreign donations from speaking out about potential election issues. Under the plans, organisations that have spent $100,000 on advocacy over the past four years would face the same restrictions as registered political parties.
