The Indonesian government under President Joko Widodo launched a social forestry program. How is its implementation today?

The Indonesian government under President Joko Widodo launched the social forestry program. This is a sustainable forest management system that involves communities as key actors in and around state or native forests, to improve community welfare, environmental sustainability, and socio-cultural well-being.

This program provides communities with access to forest management to utilize environmentally friendly forest products, such as non-timber forest products, ecotourism, and other forest product processing.

The Panorama Alam Lestari Foundation (YPAL) assists communities in Poso Regency, Central Sulawesi, in this program, and Yopy Hari is the director of the organisation.

He stated that this program encourages communities to have access within forest areas. The Panorama Alam Lestari Foundation (YPAL) is focusing on this program because, according to Yopy, it is a form of legitimacy that can encourage community access to forest management, including reducing conflicts over land tenure.
