Mark Weinberg QC has started his special investigation into the findings of Justice Brereton’s inquiry into alleged war crimes by Australian soldiers in Afghanistan. The publication of the Brereton report prompted a range of responses nationally and internationally.


Alexandre Faite is the Head of the Delegation for Indonesia and Timor Leste at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).  He explains the complexities of nations investigating their soldiers’ war crimes. What suggestions does he make for preventing soldiers from breaching international conventions on warfare?
