Another one million Australians will soon have their personal health information made accessible online under a federal government initiative, it says, will improve outcomes for patients and medical professionals.
The government estimates that My Health Record could save nearly 8-billion-dollars in inefficiencies as well as 5,000 lives each year.
The system includes a 'break-glass' option allowing doctors to access vital information in medical emergencies such as anaphylaxis, heart attacks, strokes and when a patient is unconscious.
The trial will inform a national roll-out of the scheme.
