Should libraries stay open until late as an alternative to poker machine venues?

That's what one area in New South Wales is calling for to help grapple with the scourge of gambling.

More than 30 per cent of people living in the Fairfield area are considered to be from low-income households but perversely it has one of the highest incomes from gaming machines.

In the last Liquor and Gaming bi-annual report to May 2020, net profit from gaming machines in clubs in the area totalled more than $111 million.
