Mother's Day is celebrated in Indonesia on 22 December. Is the Indonesian Mother's Day similar to the Mother's Day celebrated in Western Countries? Bonnie Triyana, The Chief Editor of Historia magazine, recounts his article on the history and the meaning of the Indonesian Mother's Day.


On 22 December 1928, the first All Indonesian Women's Congress was held. In 1959, this day was officially declared as Mothers Day in Indonesia after it was signed by President Soekarno under Presidential Decree No. 316. This day was aimed to celebrate the spirit of Indonesian women to improve the condition of the nation.
