Helena Anggraeni, a teacher in Victoria, was the recipient of an Indonesian language teaching award from the Australian government.
The Australia-Indonesia Institute (AII) Indonesian Studies Awards from the Australian government celebrates "outstanding individual achievements in strengthening Indonesian language and cultural education in Australia". There are three categories for this award: the Language Teaching Award, the Studies and Cultural Leadership Award and the Distinguished Service Award.
Helena Anggraeni, Indonesian language teacher at Victoria's Dromana Secondary College, was one of the recipients of this year's award. She received the AII Language Teaching Award which recognises excellence in Indonesian language teaching.
Ms Anggraeni said that her consistency in delivering lessons in a unique and unconventional way was most likely be the key to her win in this category.

"I involve the children in many extracurricular activities, including music, Model UN in Indonesian, excursions and I often apply for grants to support schools surrounding my school," she told SBS Indonesian.
In a previous interview with SBS Indonesian, Ms Anggraeni also shared how she strives to make language learning as "close as possible" to her students to ensure her teaching is relevant and that students can understand the material more easily.
