The government announced it would introduce changes to labour laws to make it easier for freelancers to become permanent or part-time workers.

The changes will close a loophole that allows employers to provide job security and leave in line with permanent employment for casual workers working regular hours. The

obligation to offer permanent positions to all freelancers after 12 months will remain, but freelancers will not have to accept permanent status and lose additional to their casual pay rate.
