Many marginalised people across the world have faced discrimination and unequal access to care during the pandemic. Harapan Fian is an organisation in Yogyakarta that cares for diverse poor people, like the poor, the homeless, sex workers and members of the transgender community.
Ahmad Syaifuddin (Didin) is the director of Harapan Fian. Alex Gotts is a writer and community worker who met Didin when she was volunteering in Yogyakarta. Last November they and others held an up-lifting on-line fund raiser that showed peoples’ resilience and generosity. Alex and Didin explain to Sri Dean the challenges marginalised groups like the transgender community are facing in Indonesia.
