Understanding ourselves as Indonesians abroad

Panel discussion

On the eve of the 78th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, many of us living outside Indonesia find ourselves reflecting on our own identity as Indonesians.

What does it mean to be an Indonesian? How does our identity change when we live in a different country?

To explore these questions, we have invited three guests to join us in a discussion:
  • Ms. Dewi Angraeni, a professor of Indonesian studies at a university
  • in the Monash University.
  • Dr. Tuti Gunawan, a psychologist specializing in cross-cultural identities.
  • Mas Senza Arsendy, a writer and activist who has lived in several different countries.

We hope this discussion will help us to better understand our own identity as Indonesians, and find ways to connect with our homeland even though we live far away.
