Some of the country’s top lawyers, migration experts and disability advocates have gathered in Adelaide to call on the Australian government to re-examine its migration health requirement.
The migration health requirement has three stated purposes: to protect the community from public health risks, to prevent Australians from being unable to access in-demand medical services, and to guard against significant public health costs.
Several families and individuals are barred from migrating to Australia each year on the basis of a disability or chronic health condition, even when there’s no indication government disability or health services will be used.
