Tennis super-star Novak Djokovic was detained twice in his recent efforts to avoid deportation. He stayed in a hotel where refugees and asylum seekers are detained. For a moment the refugees and asylum seekers were in the spotlight. But will the events around Djokovic have any impact on their fate?
Shaffira Gayatri is an activist for women’s and refugees’ rights. She currently works at the Migrant Workers Centre Victoria. She explains to Sri Dean why the refugees are being detained in the Park Hotel and assesses how their situation affects Australia from a human rights perspective.
