A new report from the Parliamentary Budget Office shows older women and people with disabilities are spending longer than ever on welfare.

The Parliamentary Budget Office has released new analysis examining the spending habits and demographics of those on unemployment benefits before coronavirus.

It's found older Australians and women are making up a bigger share of JobSeeker recipients, while the number of people on the unemployment payment long-term is also rising.

The share of recipients aged 45 and older increased from 44 per cent in 2007 to 56 per cent in 2019 for women, and from 34 to 45 per cent for men.
