Almost 300 Iranian PhD students are lobbying the federal government for responses to their student visa applications after receiving scholarships to Australian universities.

Almost 300 Iranian PhD students are lobbying the federal government for responses to their student visa applications after receiving scholarships to Australian universities.


Many of these PhD students have been waiting a year, on average, without any response, with academics warning Australia risks losing out on crucial research.

 

But some of the students have withdrawn their visa application after waiting eight months for an answer and now they are in Malaysia finishing their thesis.
