Bams Conoras, or better known as President Tidore, is a hip hop singer from Tidore Island, North Maluku Province.

Dilail Abimanyu had an opportunity to speak with this hio hop musician.

Born to a father who was also a musician, Bams Conoras started his music career while studying in Yogyakarta in 2009. When Bams first entered the world of Hip Hop, his songs were not well received by the public, especially the people of North Maluku.
I didn't choose hip-hop, rather hip-hop chose me as a path of knowledge

However, things changed when he had a duet with an Acehnese singer when Bams added Hip Hop elements from the song Kutidhieng from Aceh. This song made Bams famous, especially in his hometown.

The key to its success is the research carried out to create the song. And since then, Bams has always done research to create his songs.

When interviewed by SBS Indonesian, Bams said that research for a song takes a long time, it can take months to even several years.

This May, he traveled to Australia to attend an invitation from the 16Albermale art gallery in Sydney. Apart from that, he also attended several events in Canberra and Melbourne.

In Melbourne, Bams gave a public lecture on woven fabrics at the Indonesian Language Department, University of Melbourne. Apart from that, at the Catholic Ladies College, Eltham, Victoria, Bams together with the staff of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Melbourne provided knowledge about Indonesia.
When you sing with a fundamental knowledge, you have to understand what you are singing, you have to understand what they feel..

Of course, at every event he attended, Bams or the Presiden Tidore showed his hip-hop action. Including at the Catholic Ladies College, he performed a duet with angklung music guided by the staff of the Indonesian Consulate General in Melbourne.
