Lambang Septiawan, S3 candidate at the University of Melbourne studies the issue of inclusion of people with disabilities in communities in Indonesia.

Sri Dean of SBS Indonesia spoke with Lambang Septiawan who has conducted research examining how informality and socio-cultural norms impact mobility and participation of individuals with mobility impairments in public activities.

These findings suggest that participants' mobility challenges and opportunities are shaped by interrelated physical and socio-cultural factors in their everyday experiences.

Urban informality poses barriers to mobility, but participants often strategically navigate these informal aspects to enhance their movement.

This understanding contributes to the existing literature on disability, place, and urban mobility by explaining how environmental conditions affect the life experiences of individuals with mobility impairments.
