Among the federal government's intake of 12,000 refugees from Syria and Iraq is a young Melbourne family who left everything behind to start a new life away from the bombing. The Kamakhli family was among the first arrivals in the group and has just begun calling Melbourne home.
His other siblings have been settled in Germany and Switzerland, but his parents remain in Syria, never far from his mind.
He says he hopes they, too, can soon start a better life.
