Senior drivers are being urged to reconsider their driving abilities.The comments from a senior police officer have been met with criticism from older drivers and advocacy groups.
Last year (2015), 18 per-cent of road fatalities involvedd drivers older than 70, despite only accounting for 11 per-cent of the driving population.
2015 also saw a 20 per cent increase in road deaths for people aged over 70.
Assistant Commissioner Hartley says not every driver over 70 should stop driving, rather, drivers must be more aware of their abilities.
