There is generally no need to promote a culture of tipping for day-to-day services.

Many people object to tipping in Australia. They see it as an unnecessary cultural influence from countries like the US, where working conditions for service staff are very different.

If you choose to tip after eating out, cash can be left on the table after the meal, or in the tip jar at the counter.

Tips can also be added to credit card payments. Restaurant owners are expected to pass that tip on to their employees.

So, if we choose to reward someone for good service, how much should we give? This is completely up to the individual.
