A potentially fatal yet preventable condition, rheumatic heart disease, is rising in Australia’s Indigenous communities.


 

More than 5000 people are living with the disease or its precursor, acute rheumatic fever, and that number is expected to double this decade.

As Small Business Secrets learned, specialist medical teams are now flying into towns in regional New South Wales to start treating patients.

It's a little-known illness that's starting to affect more and more people - and Australia's Indigenous communities are among the most vulnerable.
