The metaverse is not a new concept but interest in its potential has recently increased especially when Mark Zuckerberg announced his intention to change the Facebook company name to Meta. Will the metaverse be the property of the tech giants?

Dr Ika Karlina Idris is Associate Professor in the Public Policy and Management program at Monash University Indonesia.  She explains to Sri Dean the possible benefits of the life in a virtual world as well as the types of regulation and digital literacy that will be needed to protect the vulnerable from abuse and exploitation.
