On Wednesday afternoon, the early results showed positive trends for the Trump team in the 2020 US Presidential Election. Even though announcement of the final result appeared to be days away, it was possible to explain some trends and to also analyse Indonesians’ attitudes to the election.

Both candidates, Biden and Trump have policies and characteristics that appeal to different groups including Indonesians. Dr Retno Sukardan Mamoto is a specialist in American Studies at the University of Indonesia.  She explains the different influences on Indonesians’ attitudes to the candidates, as well as the relevance of those attitudes to the real world of politics.
