What is Australia's strategy in the face of the space race?

NBN Co's strategic partnership with Amazon has the potential to provide high-speed broadband services to more than 300,000 homes and businesses in regional, rural and remote areas of Australia.

NBN Co, the company responsible for the National Broadband Network (NBN) network in Australia, has announced a strategic partnership with Amazon's Kuiper.
The collaboration aims to bring high-speed internet services more widely and evenly distributed across Australia, including in rural and remote areas that have been hard to reach by conventional cable infrastructure.

By harnessing Amazon's Kuiper constellation of low-orbit satellites (LEO), NBN Co hopes to reach underserved populations and provide stable and fast connectivity.

The partnership is a significant step in Australia's efforts to narrow the digital divide and ensure every citizen has reliable internet access.

The partnership is being trialled in 2025 and is expected to launch commercially in the coming years.
