There have been some extraordinary Australian academics and volunteers who have fostered understanding and collaboration between Indonesians and Australians. Hugh O’Neill was one of those people. He is remembered for helping many young aspiring Indonesian architects to achieve their dreams. But there was much more to Hugh O’Neill AO.


Dr Amanda Achmadi, Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design in the Faculty of Architecture, Planning and Building at Melbourne University.  She explains to Sri Dean the history of Hugh O’Neill’s involvement with Indonesia and his remarkable cross-cultural legacy.
