Indonesia’s air safety record has come under scrutiny after Sriwijaya air flight 182 crashed on 09 Jan. In a time of shock and mourning people have also been keen to speculate about what happened. Why do these disasters occur?


Aeronautical engineer Ahmad Arafat Aminullah is the founder of Indonesia’s Young Aerospace Forum, an organisation focused on developing the skills of people working in aviation.  He explains that while various reasons have been suggested why the catastrophe happened, we should avoid coming to quick accusations and conclusions.
