What is STEM?

STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. We focus on these areas together not only because the skills and knowledge in each discipline are essential for student success, but also because these fields are deeply intertwined in the real world like computerisation of services, transport co-ordination, world of medicine and surgery, developing new computer program and a lot more.

Why is STEM important for future growth?

A 2014 report Science, Technology, Engineering And Mathematics: Australia’s Future released by the Office of the Chief Scientist, states: “STEM skills are critical to the management and success of R&D projects as well as the day-to-day operations of competitive firms. They are the lifeblood of emerging knowledge-based industries – such as biotechnology, information and communications technology (ICT) and advanced manufacturing – and provide competitive advantage to established industries – such as agriculture, resources and healthcare.”

What are the BENEFITS?

1. Better skills and knowledge for future industries

PwC’s A Smart Move report forecasts that 75 per cent of the fastest growing occupations will require skills in the STEM fields.

2. Better career opportunities

A report commissioned by The Office of the Chief Scientist finds people with STEM qualifications are valuable to the workplace, even when their major field of study is not a prerequisite for their role.
