According to Heso Production, an Osaka-based company which has produced many goods to commemorate the end of the current era Heisei, the air was collected on the 22nd of April at Henari village in Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
The village shares same Chinese characters used in the name of Heisei.
Each sealed can of air contains one five-yen (roughly 6 Australian cents) coin. The doughnut-shaped coins are regarded as lucky charms in Japan.
Japan will start the beginning of the new era, Reiwa, from the 1st of May, 2019.
