Naomi Osaka and Testuko Kuroyanagi become new Barbies

Two Japanese women, World No.1 tennis player Naomi Osaka and a talk show host Tetsuko Kuroyanagi, became one of the newest Barbie dolls made to celebrate the International Women's Day.

Naomi and Tetsuko have joined the list of 20 inspiring female role models selected as Barbie’s “Sheroes” series.  The series was started by Mattel, the company which sells Barbie dolls, to honour global female role models and the lineup is announced every year in time for the International Women's Day which is the 8th of March.

Naomi won both the US Open and Australia Open.  Tetsuko has been a UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador since 1984.

From Australia, Ita Buttrose, who was recently appointed as the chairman of the country's public broadcasting company ABC, joins the list of the 20 “Sheroes”.

Tetsuko attended the event in Tokyo to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Barbie's debut.
