The name of the new imperial era is Reiwa: Japanese government

The name of the new imperial era in Japan was announced today. It is called Reiwa (令和) which originated from Manyo-shu, Japan's oldest anthology of poems.

Reiwa, the new imperial era, will begin on the 1st of May this year, when Japanese Emperor Akihito abdicates and Crown Prince Naruhito takes over.
