Women's Ballon d'Or Winner Asked to Twerk

The recipient of the first Ballon D'Or award for the world's best female footballer of the year has been named. Norwegian footballer, Ada Hegerburg winning the award, however her moment in women's football history was overshadowed by the host of the awards comments to her.

After giving Hegerburg her award, host, D-J Martin Solveig asked her if she would do the dance move, the twerk.

Social media was quick to respond, labeling the French D-J's comments as sexist and saying it was a question that he would never have asked a male player.

Hegerburg is a strong advocate for equality and is not representing Norway until conditions improve for female players.

She says Solveig apologised immediately, as he had not realised his comments could be taken offensively.

Hegerburg  "He came to me after and he was really sad taht it went that way. I didn't think about it in that moment. I didn't consider it sexual harassment. That's why you need to take the moment and really cherish it and show the importance of pushing younger girls to persue their dreams."))

Croatia's Luka Modric won the best male footballer of the year, ending the streak of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who dominated the award for the past ten years.
