Rather than simply bringing works by Japanese artists over, this is a new initiative in which young Japanese artists create works inspired by Australia and exhibit them in a Sydney gallery. We spoke to Kosuke Nagata, a multimedia artist from Kanagawa Prefecture, and Tomoya Iwata, a Tokyo-based curator, about the current exhibition, ‘Suddenly This Overview’. Why did Mr Nagata choose Cowra—a place known as a symbol of reconciliation between Japan and Australia—as his subject?
The exhibition is on display at the Japan Foundation Sydney gallery until 29 August.
