There's been a mixed reaction to the social media bans imposed on US President Donald Trump following the riots at the US Capitol building last week.


While many are welcoming his removal, others are concerned that this shows social media giants like Twiter and Facebook have control over free speech.

In a statement on its blog, Twitter said it was suspending the President's account on the grounds of public safety.

 

But the removal of Donald Trump from social media has provoked some disquiet among other world leaders.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel considers  President Trump's eviction from Twitter by the company "problematic."
