Scott Morrison became Australia's 30th prime minister in August last year when the Liberal Party voted him in as leader after a very public and acrimonious leadership spill.
Since then, Mr. Morrison's prime ministership has faced several challenges: the loss of a majority in parliament, historic losses on legislation and accusations of Islamophobia and misogyny.
Despite this, and despite opinion polls consistently showing the Coalition trailing Labor on a two-party preferred basis, those same polls also show Scott Morrison is preferred to Labor leader Bill Shorten as prime minister.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten's rise to leader of the Labor Party in 2013 fulfilled a long-held ambition for the former union leader.
He's managed to last as party leader longer than most in recent history, and opinion polling suggests there might be more.
