Kuroishi Yosare is one of the top three Japanese Nagashi odori, a style of festival dance. Four high school students and a Japanese shamisen player from Kuroishi City in Aomori prefecture in Japan visited Sydney this month to hold workshops for students and the public.

Ms Joy Yu, who acted as MC at the dance workshops, is from Sydney. She is on the Japanese government's JET Programme and was sent to Kuroishi City in August this year as Coordinator for International Relations (CIR).

Ms Yu flew to Sydney with the students and a shamisen player from Kuroishi City. For the Kuroishi students, this was their first overseas travel.
