The Japan women's national rugby sevens team, Sakura Sevens, is visiting Sydney to participate in the HSBC Women's Sevens Series which starts on Australia Day, the 26th of January.
Japan will host the men’s Rugby World Cup next year and also the next Summer Olympic Games in 2020. Even though rugby’s popularity is shadowed by baseball and soccer in Japan, thanks to the two world events coming up, rugby has gradually started gaining popularity. Sakura Sevens is trying to make the most of the traction and support and win a medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
