JFF (Japan Film Festival) marked its 25th anniversary this year. The festival started with just three films in 1997.

Mr. Masafumi Konomi started working at the Japan Foundation Sydney in 1993.  As part of a program to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Australia and Japan, Mr. Konomi held a screening of three Japanese films in Sydney in 1997.  That was the first Japanese Film Festival (JFF) which now has expanded to 15 countries including its birthplace Australia.

In the audio, Mr. Konomi shares his thoughts on the festival after marking its 25th anniversary and an inside story of the festival.

This year's JFF started from the 28th of October in Canberra and will finish in Sydney on the 5th of December.

Last year, Mr. Konomi and a team launched a digital version of JFF where you can watch Japanese films without cost, in parallel with in-person JFF where you buy a ticket to watch, in order to offer more Japanese films to wider audience globally.

Japanese Film Festival Online will start in February in 2022.
